*Job Description*
Pepperdine University's Sudreau Global Justice Institute is seeking a full time legal intern/fellow to *live in East Africa* and assist in the management and expansion of the existing initiatives (including helping manage the summer legal intern program from recruiting to orientation and training to workflow management) as well as propose, create, and execute new potential programs in Uganda, Rwanda, and other nations in East Africa.
The successful candidate will work on a year-to-year basis under the direction of the Sudreau East Africa Director (the “Director”) while living in East Africa.
Along with operational activities, including managing the twice-yearly Prison Projects, the intern may participate in drafting of academic or scholarly articles related to the program as well as promotional, social media, and fundraising materials.
This position includes a $10,000 stipend and housing in Kampala, Uganda.
*Required Qualifications*
* 4-Year Degree from an accredited university.
* JD, Master of Laws, or similar degree or qualification allowing for legal practice.
* Willingness to relocate and live internationally.
* Flexible.
* Teachable.
* Ability to work in dynamic, unpredictable, and challenging cross-cultural settings.
* Passion and conviction to assist the vulnerable.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Willingness to mentor and train younger lawyers and law students.
* Desire to partner with lawyers, jurists, and thought leaders in the developing world to create and implement programs to enhance access to justice.
* Proven ability to cultivate and develop relationships with international stakeholders, (NGOs, government personnel, funders, project partners).
* Financial management with total integrity.
*Desired Qualifications*
* 2 years of international and/or cross-cultural work or life experience.
* 2 years of experience with criminal law or civil litigation/trial practice.
* Ability to raise some financial support for stipend and living expenses.
* Technology skills (MS Word, Excel, database management, CMS, Google Docs).
* Experience drafting and/or editing project-based scholarly articles.
* Fearlessness in the face of unique challenges and unexpected opportunities.
* Willingness to drive in the developing world/IDP.
