I typically emerge this time of year, growing slowly after the rains in the deep leaf litter.
I prefer the coast down in this region (who doesn’t?) but I will befriend Coast live oak inland if the moisture is right.
Although my bright coloring would lead you to believe I’m flamboyant, I’m actually rather shy, only emerging enough to leave a mushrump on the ground.
