What does the job involve? Summary: Requires the finish-forming, measuring and scribing, trimming, fitting, aligning, assembling and setting-up of sheet, tubular, machined or formed parts preparatory to welding and the straightening and aligning of warped assemblies and parts after welding.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to: Fabricates and assembles sheet metal parts and finishes products form blueprints and verbal instructions.
Performs such typical operations as drilling, trimming, filing, grinding and assembling parts in jigs and holding fixtures involving a number of location points to exacting tolerances.
Straightens and aligns the assemblies before and after welding in order to keep parts in direct location to each other and to obtain proper contour to exacting tolerances.
Holds parts in place by spot welding, clamping, bonding or machine tacking.
Uses all hand tools, portable tools, stationary tolls and tooling necessary to perform sheet metal fabrication; also such tools as air motors, metal shrinkers and expanders, gauges and other general shop tools.
Checks planning sequence of work operations and submits any corrections or suggestions to the Foreman for approval.
Be able to determine what is acceptable in the appearance of a weld.
Also understand shrinkage problems in order to compensate for this condition.
Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
Other duties with the work as assigned.
In addition to the above, Fitters are to maintain an organized, clean and safe work area using safety standards and expectations while adhering to all quality practices.

Other Abilities: Must be able to use all prevision measuring instruments.

Must be familiar with inspection requirements.
Qualifications: Tacking Certificate, "M" Stamp, and Visual Weld Inspection Certified Tools used: Hand tools, scales, router jigs, measuring instruments, hand snips, templates, jigs and fixtures, mandrels, dollies, bumpers, check fixtures, heating torches, goggles, drill presses, grinding wheels, hand drills, clamps, vises, nibbling machines, etc.
Materials used: Emery cloth, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in the form of sheet, castings, forging, extrusions, tubular stock machined and formed parts.
