General Description: The growing communication function at HRL Laboratories needs a talented, results-oriented communications professional with experience in a variety of communication disciplines including external, internal and executive communications.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, persuasive storyteller, critical thinker and problem solver.
They are an excellent writer, highly-organized and detail-oriented with a demonstrated interest in science and technology.
Essential Duties: Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategies that support company objectives for both external and internal audiences.
Develop news announcements and thought leadership content in collaboration with subject matter experts from concept through approval process.
Maximize opportunities to amplify content via external media relations and digital/social media efforts.
Translate complex scientific topics into understandable content and determine the right channels to deliver them.
Work closely with functional departments, especially Human Resources, to develop and implement communication programs, procedures, and initiatives around significant internal initiatives (such as new program roll-outs or important company milestones).
Partner with creative team to develop impactful multi-media assets that support company storytelling.
Manage internal events, such as All-Hands Meetings and Award Ceremonies.
Augment and amplify external event opportunities with additional tactics such as speaker proposals, social media, or traditional media engagement.
Manage an editorial calendar with a focus on making the most of every opportunity and keep the communication flow of the company organized.
Develop best practices/KPIs to enable continuous improvement of the communications function and demonstrate effectiveness of communication programs.
Coach executives and spokespeople, providing media training, key message development, and interview preparation as well as providing feedback to help them enhance their effectiveness at internal communication as well.
Contribute to the evolution of organization’s brand guidelines (verbal and visual) and develop content within the constructs of the brand profile.
Stay current on communications best practices/trends and integrate into communications programs.
Required Skills: 5-7 years of PR/communications experience — in-house and/or agency — preferably within a technology-oriented environment.
A highly skilled writer, editor, and communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong project management skills, with a heightened attention to detail.
Supportive teammate who is eager to make their mark in an evolving organization.
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint.
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Compensation: The base salary range for this full-time position is $117,200 - $143,500 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
The range displayed on each job posting reflects the target for new hire salaries for the position.
Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
