Under the clinical supervision of the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), the Medical Assistant (MA) III will perform non-invasive routine technical supportive services of clinic patients' care relating to therapeutic and diagnostic functions, following established procedures, techniques, and work schedules.
The supervising LIP must be physically present in the treatment facility in order for the Medical Assistant to perform their non-invasive technical supportive services; the Medical Assistant cannot evaluate or synthesize data.
The Medical Assistant III also provides a variety of administrative, assistive & supportive clinical and outreach activities as a lead MA for the departmental care team (s).
Reports to: Direct & Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Departmental Program Manager, or Clinic Administrator designee Professional/Technical: Registered Nurse Supervisor in consultation with the LIP Varied and depends on Clinical Area (Women’s Health, Public Health Services, & Programs, etc.
), Program Manager Qualifications: 1.
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
2.
Completion of state approved training for Medical Assistants and training (Calif.
Business & Professional Code 2069, 2070; and Calif.
Code of Regulations 1377, 1377.
1) relating to the performance of injections, skin testing, and withdrawal of blood.
3.
Must have 5 years plus experience as a Medical Assistant OR, 4.
Served as a Medical Assistant in a Laboratory Quality Assurance or Medical Assistant assigned to equipment sterilization if not a Certified Sterilization Technician, OR 5.
Served as a Medical Assistant and was the Lead Medical Assistant in a department or for a program and coordinated flow for the department.
FOR FIVE OR MORE YEARS** Items with ** the Site Administrator must attest in writing to the MA performance of these current duties in a memo to HR department.
6.
For all positions assigned to the clinical areas of Family Medicine must have completed State approved audiometric, vision and other pertinent training for CHDP.
Must be familiar with quality metrics for health plans (STARS, HEDIS) and M HLA to assure compliance with programmatic goals.
7.
For all positions assigned to the clinical areas of Women’s Health must have completed Basic Health Worker training and have an above avaergae4 understanding of WH programs like Title X, Family PACT, EWC/CDP.
8.
Demonstrates good to excellent leadership potential.
Shows a desire to improve quality and implement change.
9.
Above average performance evaluations and good to excellent understanding of department flow and/or health center processes.
10.
Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.
11.
Display qualities of dependability and reliability, be willing to accept a variety of tasks, and able to comprehend quickly and follow instructions accurately.
12.
Be able to communicate tactfully and empathetically, with cultural sensitivity, with staff and patients.
13.
Write and print legibly.
14.
Be well groomed and display mature behavior.
15.
Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
16.
Must be willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of NEVHC and its patients.
17.
Must maintain or exceed competency levels as established by corporate standards for clinical practice.
18.
Must demonstrate through written and/or oral testing, the knowledge, and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and has knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
He or she is able to identify and categorize each patient age specific grouping of needs, such as those for infant, adolescent, adult, or geriatric patients.
19.
Fluency in English (speaks, read, and write).
20.
Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read, and write) and must complete the mandatory Medical Interpretation course within first year of employment.
21.
Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.
22.
Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
