Organization Overview
Vaughn Next Century Learning Center (“Vaughn”), located in Pacoima, is a large urban public school within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
Since the early 1970s, low student achievement had been a pattern.
In 1993, tired of being helpless and hopeless, Vaughn became the first conversion charter school in the nation and was authorized by LAUSD.
The charter was renewed most recently in 2018.
Vaughn has over 25 years of experience as a successful independent charter school serving the district’s low-income students.
This previously failing elementary public school is now a full-service, community-based, K-12th charter school that assures all students are college/career ready, digitally literate, and globally competent.
Position Overview
We are actively seeking a dynamic and skilled Human Resources Assistant, adept in handling a variety of office support and administrative HR tasks within our lively Human Resources department.
If you're looking for temporary employment and are ready to thrive in a fast-paced environment, we want you! Currently we're seeking candidates who have HR experience and are Bilingual Spanish-speaking, but not required if you have Human Resources experience.
This position is expected to last through the end of July 2024.
Primary Responsibilities
Support with digital and paper base personnel files, ensuring accurate filing and HRIS maintenance.
Support with creation of workers compensation folders for sites
Support with payroll information for staff absences including Bereavement, Jury duty and sick time for staff on leave.
Assist in processing payroll changes.
Conduct confidential typing assignments.
Audit employee files and prepare for regulatory audits.
Support with new hire digital files ensuring I-9 compliance.
Coordinate credentialing documentation, acting as a liaison with credentialing agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Meet one of the following:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent plus (2) years of progressive experience supporting in a Human Resources department or Must have a bachelor’s degree plus (1) year of progressive experience in jobs related to providing support in a Human Resources department
Proven ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
Capable of juggling multiple projects with attention to detail.
Independent with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
Bilingual Spanish preferred, not required if you have Human Resources experience.
Knowledgeable in Paycom or HRIS systems, Microsoft Word, Excel.
Must have strong communication skills
Must be able to quickly resolve people’s problems
Must be familiar with database systems and common HR applications
General knowledge of labor law highly preferred
High analytical and organizational skills

Additional Information
Upon receiving an offer of employment:
Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan) with the Department of Justice (DOJ)
Must provide a Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) clearance within 60 days of employment
Will be assigned mandated state training to be completed prior to the first day of employment
