Middle School Physical Education Teacher (6-8) JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Middle School Physical Education Teacher Schedule: 40 hrs/week minimum Job Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Principal Pay: starting $62,235, starting (DOE), Salary Scale Special: Onsite position; Requires weekend work, nights and early mornings, as needed ABOUT INGENIUM SCHOOLS Ingenium Schools is transforming education by restoring joy and meaning to learning.

Ingenium Schools currently operates several charter schools, serving students throughout Los Angeles.
POSITION SUMMARY: Ingenium teachers develop Profound Learning Experiences ("PLEs").
PLEs are enticing, intriguing, fun, challenging, and meaningful learning experiences that drive students to deeper meaning and understanding.
Teaching with PLEs is similar to project-based learning, in that teachers design experiential units of learning that are hands-on and meaningful to students' real world experience.
Teachers will both implement existing PLEs and develop their own PLEs that scaffold and guide learners from basic information, to higher levels of thinking.
PLEs are tied directly to Common Core and NGSS standards.
All PLEs and other teachings provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill students’ potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Ingenium teachers create PLEs that are differentiated based on written curriculum and assessments that are tailored to meet the needs of their own students.
Teachers differentiate for English learners, students with special needs, and other subgroups of students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & JOB DUTIES: Duties include, but are not limited to: KEY CONTRIBUTIONS Support the mission, vision, and core values of Ingenium Schools Strive to implement, by instruction and action, Ingenium Schools’ philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives Continuously maintain and improve professional competence Attend mandatory trainings, professional meetings, and educational conferences, as required CLASS CULTURE Encourage students to set and maintain minimum standards of class behavior, measuring progress through individual and class goal setting Create a safe, developmentally appropriate class environment conducive to learning and risk-taking and based on student interests and goals Implement and support school/organizational policies governing student life and conduct ACADEMIC Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods for physical education Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ differing needs and interests Prepare and implement intervention programs for students requiring extra help In harmony with curriculum goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students daily Prepare yard, blacktop, or classroom for class activities based on student and environment needs.
Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, and guide students in learning from activities Plan, monitor, and report on the Fitnessgram assessment for all 5th grade students DATA DRIVEN Consistently and accurately observe and assess students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health, both formally and informally, through observation, authentic performance, and written evaluation Provide frequent and timely feedback to students and parents on student progress Recommend resources to parents for additional student growth Timely deliver accurate and complete written and oral progress reports Maintain and accurate and complete student records as required by law and Ingenium Schools’ policies Maintain student confidentiality COLLABORATION Confer with students and parents outside of the instructional day to resolve students’ behavioral and/or academic issues, as needed Maintain and improve professional competence and participate in professional development opportunities Actively participate in team meetings and serve on staff committees, school-wide events, parent workshops, and community partnership events Assist with school/organizational events, general supervision, extra-curricular support, tutoring, etc.
, as needed Perform related duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES KNOWLEDGE OF: Highly effective teaching strategies in physical education for all student subgroups California physical education standards Principles and methods of lesson design Effective measurements of learning/assessments, including diagnostic, formative and summative, performance tasks and project evaluation English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar Mathematics, including arithmetic, geometry, algebra, etc.
Child cognitive development and learning styles Learning and motivational strategies that extend all students towards high academic and personal achievement Computer application and Internet search skills ABILITY TO: Establish a culture of high expectations based on the belief that all students can be successful Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with physical education standards Analyze qualitative and quantitative student data; create and track efficacy of data-driven action plans Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement student learning Effectively collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged, productive, and safe Maintain positive attitude Maintain regular attendance REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Bachelor’s Degree REQUIRED LICENSES / CERTIFICATES: Valid California teaching credential authorizing instruction in secondary classrooms or physical education English Language Learner Authorization CPR/First Aid (provided by Ingenium post-hire) Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination status WORKING CONDITIONS ENVIRONMENT: Majority of duties performed outdoors in a grass/dirt field or on blacktop.
