Position Duties
Summary
Under the supervision of the Librarian and guidance of the Library Technicians, provide library assistance and services to students, faculty and the public; perform routine clerical duties in support of the campus library.

The Library Clerk provides information and assistance to library customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists and interacts positively with library patrons.
Charge and discharge library materials using a computer terminal.
Provides guidance and training to student workers.
Enters data onto established data entry screens.
Opens classrooms, study rooms and locked supplies within library.
Shelves books as needed and maintain assigned areas.
Perform routine clerical duties including typing and alpha and numeric filing.
May be left in charge when other library staff is out.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
Requires basic knowledge of data entry techniques.
Requires a working knowledge in the use of common computer software and is familiar with common start-up and shut-down procedures.
Requires basic knowledge of library procedures and functions.
Abilities
Must be able to apply and explain library rules, regulations and policies.
Requires the ability to deal courteously with library patrons.
Must be able to perform routine clerical and record keeping duties.
Physical Abilities
Incumbent must be able to function indoors in an office and/or library circulation desk environment engaged in work primarily of a sedentary to moderately active nature.
Requires hearing and speech ability for ordinary conversation and to project voice to a small group.
Requires sufficient manual and/or finger dexterity to type/keyboard and otherwise operate computers and other office equipment.
Requires ambulatory ability to sit, walk, to move about office and campus environments, and to lift and carry light to medium weight materials on an intermittent basis.
Requires the ability to reach overhead above the shoulders.
Education and Experience
This position requires high school diploma and one year experience in a library setting.
Licenses and Certificates
May require a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors in a library/office setting where minimal safety considerations exist.
