As a Catholic High School owned and operated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Bishop Alemany is a community enriched by faith that develops intellectually prepared men and women who are committed to promoting a just and peaceful world as conscientious and morally courageous leaders in service to others.
Bishop Alemany High School is a Catholic College Prep high school located in the San Fernando Valley.
Our faculty is comprised of men and women who look to set an example to our students as someone able to work within Catholic traditions, values, and teachings.
The specific course(s) to be taught will be determined by the Department Chair based on departmental needs.
A candidate must be able to teach subjects like: Social Justice, Christian Relationships, Catholic Morality, Sacraments, Mission of the Church, Paschal Mystery, Christ in Scripture and Christology.
Primary duties: A Religion teacher teaches five periods at a college-prep level.
The teacher is responsible for lesson planning, lesson presentation, student assessment, and individualized student support as needed.
The teacher is responsible for maintaining a functional, educational environment where students can learn and grow in their faith while being part of the greater school community.
There is an expectation of the teacher being available to tutor students at least twice a week.
In addition to the academic duties, there is responsibility for student behavior and establishing and maintaining school standards and codes of conduct.
Communication with parents is key and should also be considered part of the duties that come with the position.
Description of position: Religion teachers are part of the Religion Department that reports to the Religion Department Chair, and the school’s administrative team (President, Principal and Vice Principals).
Essential Job Functions: • Possess a passion and expertise for teaching of the Catholic faith, especially the topics mentioned above.
• Be able to use technology in the classroom or be willing to learn how to incorporate technology as a teaching tool.
• Create Religion lessons that help include students of various faith backgrounds in them.
• Participate in school-wide and department meetings.
• Attend professional development events.
• Be an active member of our Catholic school community by participating in religious events (Masses, retreats, days of recollection, penance services, etc.
) and non-religious events like athletics, performances, rallies, etc.
• Chaperone and supervise during the school day and some evenings and weekends.
• Meet with students and parents as necessary before and after school.
• Meet the Virtus training requirement.
Requirements Requirements / Education and Qualifications: • A degree in Theology or a related field, Bachelor minimum, Masters preferred.
• Credential or Religious Studies Certification from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is required.
• Experience teaching at a Catholic high school is preferred.
• Must possess knowledge of best pedagogical practices in education.
• Familiarity with USCCB’s secondary religion curriculum framework.
• Build positive relationships with parents, students and colleagues while maintaining healthy boundaries.
• Collaborate and problem solve with colleagues and school administration.
• Sensitivity and understanding of a multi-ethnic and faith campus.
• Be able to develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum.
• Possess excellent classroom management, communication, and organization skills.

Letter of Recommendation Wage Range The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget.
New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
