Elementary Associate Teacher Job Description
The associate teacher works in unison with a lead classroom teacher to support the wide range of academic and developmental needs of young children.
The associate teacher model provides an opportunity to work with an experienced teacher on all aspects of classroom life.
In turn, the lead teacher/associate teacher model allows Campbell Hall to provide a collaborative team teaching approach that provides for low student-teacher ratio, small-group instruction, and individualized attention.
The Associate teacher will:
Demonstrate a passion for working with children, a growth mindset and approach work with an anti-bias lens
Collaborate with the lead teacher and grade level team on classroom management and student success
Share responsibility, with the lead teacher, in maintaining the classroom environment (e.
g.
organizing materials, bulletin boards, setting up learning centers & work areas, photocopying materials)
Develop and maintain positive, healthy and appropriate relationships with students and colleagues
Lead small group instruction under the direction of of the lead teacher
Manage full class transitions and supervise recess, lunch, carpool or other duties as assigned
Engage and support students of varied identities, lifestyles and beliefs
Substitute for the lead teacher when necessary
Attend school functions as they relate to the elementary school
Qualifications:
At minimum, the associate teacher will have student teaching experience or classroom experience with elementary aged children
A Bachelor’s degree is required
Effective communication skills
A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and positive energy
Organized, innovative, problem-solver, punctual, reliable under pressure
