General:
Each teacher at Oaks Christian Online will incorporate into their teaching a worldview that is distinctly Christian (see website, OC Online – Theological Engagement), and will also demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking and expression.
It is also assumed that a teacher has scholarly abilities in the subject area they teach, and that each teacher will diligently work toward helping students become independent and confident learners.
Each online teacher is directly accountable to the Online Dean of Instruction, Associate Head of School, and ultimately the head of school.
Teachers work collaboratively with the Dean of Students, Student Advisor, and other staff to promote student success.
Primary Duties:
Spiritual Commitment and Growth
Has a dynamic, growing faith and is a spiritual role model for students
Maintains a commitment to the school’s Statement of Faith in action and belief
Helps maintain an atmosphere of grace at OC Online
Professional Growth
Commits to expertise and growth in discipline, content and methodology
Learns and applies technology tools provided to maximize student engagement
Continues to develop best practices in online instruction
Online Classroom Management
Maintains a disciplined learning environment within the online classroom, which is built
out of respect, grace and passion for subject
Provides engagement opportunities for students who participate synchronously or asynchronously
Meets the learning needs of all learners, regardless of cultural background and perspective
Works within the school guidelines on the unique issues surrounding online harassment and bullying
Responds promptly in accordance with program guidelines to student and parent requests
Course Management
Maintains organization for reaching out to late and unresponsive students
As a minimum, remains faithful to course outline as indicated in the curriculum guide and enriches curriculum when possible
Uses available technology resources to enhance student learning and achievement
Responsible to prepare grade reports, progress reports, attendance reports and other such reports in accordance with school policy.
Specific Duties:
Instruction:
Weekly synchronous online session
Online office hours
Grade and provide feedback within 48-72 business hours
Offer resources and encouragement for student success
Communication:
Reply to emails and phone calls within 24 business hours.
Reach out to students and document in the student information system at least once a month
Maintain diligent communication with parents
Engagement:
Participate in virtual OC Online Faculty Lounge, maintaining collegial, educational environment, and abiding by the spirit and policies included there
Attend/view bi-monthly Faculty Meetings for professional development and others as necessary, willingly collaborating with other faculty members as a team player
Administration:
Follow escalation policies for students who are not on pace in course.
Make notes on course improvements to be implanted during course revisions.
Document interactions outside the LMS in student information system
Essential Skills:
Teaching skills - Single subject or multiple subject teaching credential required.
Classroom teaching experience and online teaching experience highly desirable.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in subject area preferred.
Technology skills - Ability to use Microsoft Office products: Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with learning management systems, student information systems, or online meeting systems is preferred.
Confidentiality - Ability to maintain confidentiality pertaining to issues relating to students, parents, and teachers.
Diplomacy - Ability to hold a student or parent accountable while fostering a spirit of partnership and community.
Flexibility - Ability to be flexible regarding tasks and commitments.
Organization - Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
Community - Maintain cordial, professional relationships with students, staff, parents and community
Value youth - Desire to assist in the spiritual, academic and social development of youth.
Joy - Ability to maintain a joyful attitude when interacting with parents, students, and faculty members.
Faith - Willingness to sign a statement of faith.
