Route Driver

*Organization* The Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is a Christian non-profit organization that has been serving the less fortunate in Southern California through emergency and long-term rehabilitation services since 1972.
RMA partners with local churches to meet the spiritual needs of the people we serve.
San Fernando Valley (SFV) Dispatch provides revenue through the pickup of in-kind donations to be sold in RMA’s thrift stores to support the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission drug and alcohol recovery program.
*Summary* Duties include picking up donations throughout the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles areas.
Route Driver position reporting to the SFV Dispatch Supervisor, located at the Sun Valley Warehouse.
This is a full-time, non-exempt regular position and may require overtime and/or weekend work.
Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
This position is eligible for overtime and benefits according to applicable guidelines.
*Essential Duties & Responsibilities* · Load and unload truck, utilizing proper lifting techniques and the appropriate tools and equipment provided, asking for assistance with awkward or items too heavy to be moved by one person.
· Safely negotiate in a variety of environments, e.
g.
steep stairs, uneven surfaces.
· Prior to daily route, inspect all vehicles and maintain vehicle supplies such as gas, oil, water, tires, etc.
to ensure vehicle is kept in proper working condition.
Report all vehicle information on the Samsara Driver App.
· Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles to supervisor.
· Read and understand Webfleet maps and follow verbal geographic directions through the designated software.
· Obey all traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
· Communicate with Receptionist by use of cell phone or messaging on PND device that is located inside the cab if the truck.
* Comply with all Federal, State, and local laws regulating safe driving, and RMA policies and procedures.
· Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported.
· Maintain a safe driving record and appropriate driver's license classification while operating company vehicles.
*Other Duties & Responsibilities* · Attend all safety matrix and driver meetings.
· Comply with RMA safety program.
*Supervisory Responsibilities* There are no employees reporting to this position.
*Qualifications* * High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Valid CA driver’s license and insurable under RMA with a minimum of 3 years, clean driving record.
· Must have experience in driving a box truck.
*Skills* · Ability to reach, bend, and lift boxes, furniture, etc.
into and out of delivery truck.
· Must be able to do extensive driving in a variety of road and weather conditions.
· Consistently demonstrate the ability to work safely.
· Requires strong customer service orientation.
* Possess a team player attitude and ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
· Have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
· Able to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
· Previous route driving experience a plus.
· Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
*Software* None *Physical Demands* · Able to lift, push and move up to 60lbs.
· Hands-on position, including moving boxes, lifting merchandise, etc.
*Equipment* · Box truck and/or cargo van.
· Use of cell phone or messaging through PND device.
· Use of hand truck and other tools required for safe lifting.
*Work Environment* As a part of normal duties this position will be in facilities with an at-risk population where errant behavior and disease risk may be present.
Appropriate safety considerations will be required to avoid illness or injury.
