POSITION DESCRIPTION:
JOB TITLE: Design / Certification Engineer.
FLSA STATUS: Exempt.
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering.

Summary:
Prepares working plans, detailed drawings and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or details sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes.
Develops efficient and accurate certification approaches for 14 CFR part 145 aircraft modifications.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Makes final sketch of proposed drawings, parts lists, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desires.
Modifies existing documentation per Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s).
Draws charts for presentations of statistical data.
Draws finished designs from sketches.
Selects suitable materials and finishes.
Uses AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
Makes engineering computations, writes specifications, and makes adjustments in drawings of specification.
Prepares design releases to manufacturing.
Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
Assists engineers in development of complex drawings involving some individual creativeness, application of advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, mechanical and fabrication problems.
Develop well organized project proposals, project specific certification plans and project schedules
Assist in the preparation and of FAA certification documents such as flammability / fire-block reports, structural substantiation reports and interface loads analysis.
Accurately define aircraft modification compliance requirements of 14 CFR parts 145, 25 and 121.
Logically define project documentation structure
As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
College level education highly desirable with specialized instruction in drafting principles/techniques.
Degree in Mechanical Engineering and plus.
MINIMUM DIRECTLY RELATED JOB EXPERIENCE:
Four years related experience in technical, manufacturing environment.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of electro-mechanical drafting work.
High mechanical aptitude
Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
Knowledge of AutoCAD and Solidworks software
Knowledge of technical supervision techniques.
Knowledge of quality control.
Knowledge of project management techniques.
Knowledge of estimating methods
Knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering.
Ability to take calculated risks based on sound judgment.
