Job Summary
Optimizes all aspects of manufacturing processes in an assigned area(s) of responsibility by identifying opportunities for improvement and applying simpler, faster more cost effective and reliable methods in all phases of manufacturing processes.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee all technical aspects of assigned manufacturing processes to ensure most efficient and productive performance.
Effectively use process improvement strategies and techniques including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma to eliminate waste and increase velocity.
Understand appropriate performance metrics (set-up time, downtime, output, etc.
) and implement continuous improvement initiatives to meet Flight Plan Goals of assigned areas.
Identify/implement scrap and rework reduction opportunities through redesign, tooling, and/or process changes.
Provides production floor support in technical matters relating to work instructions, drawing interpretation, and work order documentation.
Design and develop robust tooling and fixtures to reduce set-up and changeover time while maximizing output.
Work with cell supervision to maximize machine up-time and develop standard work as appropriate.
Coordinate tooling development and repairs with Tool Room personnel.
Provide technical data and cost justification to support capital equipment and tooling purchases
Perform time and motion studies to support standard costing activities and capacity planning.
Participate in new product development with Design Engineering to ensure manufacturability.
Coordinate with Customer Service to verify tooling requirements and manufacturing capability prior to accepting production orders.
Develop work instructions for daily operation as well as for training new employees
Verify adequacy of production planning.
Revise as required.
Assist department supervision with process training.
Assist department supervision to optimize work center layouts.
Study and investigate state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies /techniques for potential application.
Assist with other manufacturing processes and special projects as assigned.
Education/Previous Experience
3 to 5 years’ experience as Manufacturing Engineer in a continuous improvement manufacturing environment, aerospace preferred
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering required
Strong people skills and ability to work well with team members to achieve a common goal
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
Working experience with Six Sigma and SPC preferred.
Working experience designing and developing fixtures for production run using CAD software, CATIA preferred,
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project skills.
