The CNC Programmer/Operator sets up, programs and operates conventional and special purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.
The CNC Programmer/Operator will work with Bridgeport conventional manual mills, lathes as well as Haas CNC machining centers.
The CNC Programmer/Operator will also be familiar with surface grinders, band saws and chop saws and the safe use and maintenance of said equipment.

Reporting to the Production Manager, the CNC Programmer/Operator is assigned machining and associated tasks by the Production Manager and follows the priorities set by our Project Managers.
This position routinely applies knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, maintainability and strength of materials, and layout techniques.
- Must work safely and be able to provide feedback regarding ongoing refinements to our Safety Culture
- Analyze drawings and specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances
- Comfortable using CNC, manual mills, lathes, band saws, surface grinders, chop saws
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and accessories
- Machine and grind parts to specification.
- Verify conformance of parts to specification using precision measuring instruments
- Fit and assemble components
- Be able to suggest tooling upgrades and process changes to increase efficiency
- Strong understanding of CNC programming principles using either Solidworks CAM or straight G-Code programming
- Working knowledge of various hand tools, power tools and able to use various precision measuring tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, indicators and gauges
- Expected to communicate with Engineering, designers and programmers on machine issues
- Strong understanding of working to a schedule, budget and target-based production
- Ability to hand sketch needed parts or redlines and dimension them to communicate needed changes
- Needs to be organized, work neatly and have a strong grasp of "Clean As You Go" and 5S
- Strong self-starting, early communication of potential issues and teamwork skills are a must
- May communicate with machine designers during conceptualization and development of details
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- 1-4 years machining experience in manufacturing (mills, lathes, grinders, band saws, etc.
)
- High School diploma, GED or Vocational School Certification
- Experience in both manual machining and CNC machining
- Experience with CAM or conversational programming such as Solidworks Cam Part Programming System
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to shift gears quickly and adapt to on-the-fly customer changes and be able to clearly explain issues
- Ability to use traditional inspection tools for the inspection of parts and assemblies, GD&T a plus
- Experience maintaining CNC machining centers, Haas a plus
