Functional Purpose Regularly operates Postal and leased vehicles to pick up and transfer bulk quantities of mail between Postal and non-Postal facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Operates a vehicle weighing less than 26,000 pounds with varying time schedules and route assignments.
2.
Picks up and delivers bulk mail quantities from Postal facilities, picks up mail from collection boxes or non-Postal facilities (i.
e.
, shipping and mailing customers) to accommodate operations.
3.
Ascertains the condition of the vehicle prior to leaving and in returning to assigned facility; reports all accidents, notes mechanical defects, and mechanical failures during the course of the trip and adheres to USPS safety procedures.
4.
Makes adjustments to line of travel in the event of an emergency and as soon as safely possible notifies supervision of any changes.
5.
Loads and unloads mail volumes and secures containers in the truck.
Uses portable electronic scanner to make required scans and prepares daily trip reports showing work performed.
6.
Makes minor repairs to truck in emergencies while on route.
Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS: This section is composed of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) which are required to satisfactorily perform the tasks of the position.
Applicants must demonstrate that they possess a sufficient level of each KSA, to include at least minimum competency for senior-qualified positions to enable them to perform these tasks satisfactorily.
Applicants demonstrate these levels by describing examples of experience, education, or training, any of which may be non-postal.
Ratings are based on the demonstration of the level of possession of each of the KSAs.
Failure to demonstrate any KSA is disqualifying.

Ability to safely and responsibly operate vehicles, ensuring that all traffic laws are followed.

Ability to perform basic operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, fueling vehicle and cleaning of the vehicles.

Ability to perform all scanning events required for Postal Vehicle Service operators.
4.
Ability to conduct vehicle inspections to ensure operations are fully functional and safe.
5.
Ability to follow adjusted routes and schedules to ensure efficient and timely movement of mail, including adjustments to meet emergency needs.
6.
Ability to communicate in writing in order to report accidents and mechanical defects.
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants for these positions must complete an Assessment Questionnaire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must successfully complete the required Vehicle Familiarization and Safe Operation training, including demonstrating the ability to safely drive a vehicle of the type used on the job.
ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS: Applicants must have two-years of general driving experience.
At the time of appointment, applicants must have a valid driver's license; applicants must also demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record.
