As a leader you will have the opportunity to thrive in a community in which our leaders share common traits as identified in our Leadership Principles Responsibilities Under general direction of the Director of Grounds, Custodial and Events, the Assistant Director, Landscape and Grounds provides oversight for all landscape and grounds development for the University as a whole and works with the Custodial Events Manager to coordinate and provide grounds support for campus events.
The incumbent is responsible for the planning, design, organization and implementation of the campus landscape aesthetic.

This position supervises the Grounds Manager, Lead Athletic Field Groundsworker, Gardener/Pond Specialist, Lead Groundsworkers, Groundsworkers, Heavy and Light Equipment Operators, Pest Control Specialists, Lead Irrigation Specialist, Irrigation Specialists, Lead Landscaper, Landscapers, and Support Staff.
• Provides supervision and administrative oversight to Grounds Manager and Landscape & Grounds staff.
Evaluates performance, provides coaching and mentoring, and issues corrective action as needed.
This position provides orientation and training of pertinent department and University policies and procedures to new employees.
Trains or directs the training of employees on proper practices and the operation of equipment.
Participates in the hiring of new employees pertinent to the area.
• Provides oversight in servicing the University to provide all aspects of landscaping improvements, athletic field maintenance, pond and grounds maintenance, pest control, irrigation system management, horticulture, arboriculture, equipment operation and maintenance, parking and roadway maintenance, and etc.
• Liaises with the Custodial and Events Manager to provide grounds support for various university events, such as commencements, convocations, special ceremonies, as well other campus events needing grounds support which may be initiated by Athletics, Campus Licensing, Student Outreach, Associated Students, and etc.
• Acts as lead in the Director's absence, and manages contracted services including, but not limited to, tree trimming and removal, pest control, landscape/field renovations, and equipment repair.
• As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university’s vision, values and priorities.
Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team.
Encourages a courageous and resilient solution-oriented environment by participating in new opportunities to further the mission of the university.
Participates in developing initiatives that further support the campus mission with a service-oriented and catalytic mind set.

'NOTE: Qualifications • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
• Equivalent to five (5) years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience; with two of the five years in a managerial role preferred.
• Additional five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree.

• The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $96,000 - $103,008 annually, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
• Full Time: 40 hours per week; 6:00am-3:00pm, Monday through Friday.
May include some evenings and weekends.
• The individual hired for this role will physically work on-campus in Northridge.
This is not a telecommute position.
