Four gorgeous solid rosewood dining chairs by Erling Torvits for Sorø Stolefabrik
Estimated to have been made in Denmark between 1960-1969.
Very rare rosewood version.
The solid teak versions are beautiful.
But they do not compare to these which appear have been made using SOLID Brazilian rosewood which is one of the most gorgeous woods around.
The patterns selected for this set are stunning.
Almost every inch of the wood shows variations in color.
They are more subtle in person versus sunlight.
There are only a few sets available worldwide and ALL of them require special export steps which add around 2 months to the estimated 1-2 month delivery dates.
Which means it can take almost 4 months to get any.
You can see these in person in Los Angeles and for less than anywhere.
We just lowered them temporarily to $1,250 per chair as we are rearranging things.
The wood is consistent and stunning ALL the way around ALL four chairs.
Very clearly made by the same craftsmen and rosewood patterns selected by the same person.
EXTREMELY solid.
They weigh more than expected as true rosewood is extremely dense.
The rosewood used in these is stronger and harder than pure oak or teak and weighs more than most woods.
These photos will be replaced with better ones.
In person they are more amazing.
We are preparing them for a minor restoration as their careful use after 50-60 years has slightly dulled the finish in a few areas.
Remarkably good surfaces with almost no signs of expected dents or chips.
In person they almost feel like they can be finished to museum grade quality.
No signs of any repairs.
No signs of cracking or failure in the wood.
At 210 pounds, I can drop on them and they feel like they are made of steel.
When picked up, they feel as sturdy as cast aluminum.
