Description/Duties & Responsibilities This position will work year-round with the Primetime Preschool and Camp Clarita programs developing and teaching age appropriate curriculum to cultivate young learners socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.
Primetime Preschool is a program that serves an average of 364 children per school year, providing Kindergarten readiness, while Camp Clarita serves approximately 3,200 campers during the summer at six park locations throughout the community.
Duties and Responsibilities: • Creates academic, developmentally appropriate curriculum for Primetime Preschool during the school year • Develops age appropriate recreation activities for Camp Clarita programs during the summer • Supervises, mentors, and leads part-time staff and children • Assists with hiring, developing, and training of Primetime Preschool and Camp Clarita staff • Leads informative parent meetings regarding specific program goals and objectives • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with children and parents as they arise • Assists staff with preparing program specific materials when needed • Accurately maintains various records, forms, logs, and reports and follows the City’s retention policy • Provides customer service via phone and in-person with regard to information about City programs and procedures • Assists with planning and working special events within division programs • Evaluates and makes recommendations for program changes or enhancements • Assists in organization, set-up, and clean-up of facilities • Purchases, tracks inventory, and organizes program supplies Education and Experience • High School Diploma or GED equivalent • Two years paid experience in preschool and/or child care programs with at least one year in a supervisor/teacher role • Completion of at least 12 units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver license and Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid within one month of hire Knowledge and Abilities • Strong leadership skills and the ability to lead, motivate, and empower staff and children • Strong written communication skills and the ability to develop academic, age-appropriate curriculum • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to provide clear instructions to others and make public presentations • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly and effectively resolve issues relating to child development and recreation programs • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with City employees, children, and parents • Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide relevant information about programs and communicate in a tactful and positive manner with others • Strong work ethic and the ability to be self-motivated and work both independently and as part of a team • Strong ability to demonstrate confidentiality and professionalism as it relates to working with children and parents • Strong computer skills and the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel to develop and maintain class materials • Strong time-management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, work in an environment with constant interruptions, consistently meet deadlines, and be flexible to changing priorities • Ability to lift, drag, and push equipment, files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds Additional Information An online completed City application form is required to apply for this position.

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109).
Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
Compensation includes enrollment in California Public Employees’ Retirement System as a replacement for Social Security plus a competitive benefits package.
All appointments are made at step 1 of the salary range unless otherwise authorized by the City Manager.
